One of Venice’s hippest eateries, far from the intensity of crowds, closed for several years and when it reopened in 2004, its new vibe made it worthy of attention. Trendy as it seems, you’ll still find classic Venetian dishes on its menu prepared with market-fresh ingredients, including en saor. Their rendition of this sweet and sour dish is prepared with the market’s freshest fish (cuttlefish, scampi or rospo) rather than the traditional sarde (sardines). The fegato di vitello all Veneziana is served with figs and polenta and their homemade ravioli are filled with ever-changing ingredients, including ricotta e spinaci alle verdure. My favorite tables are the alcove table for two in the backroom and the low Asian-inspired bench table for a small group opposite the bar. There were plans for another room upstairs which should make getting a table here that much easier. Call ahead if you have a table preference and especially if you plan on having dinner here.
